Publishing in Siberia: The Path of A. L. Posadskov's Book to the Reader

Abstract
Using research methods of historical scholarship, this article examines the circumstances of a unique story surrounding the publication of a book by Novosibirsk historian A. L. Posadskov. The author explores the nuances of the historical era and the specifics of internal departmental practices related to academic publishing. Academic books were formally exempt from censorship. However, even the tight-knit research teams of regional branches of the USSR Academy of Sciences were effectively unable to circumvent the official and unspoken rules generally accepted in academic circles. The story of A. L. Posadskov's Book Publishing in Siberia: 1919–1923 is a striking example of how the question of the permissible limits of publishing freedom arose within the academic community at the regional and national levels on the eve of Perestroika.
