A Letter by M. Putsillo to Baron F. von der Osten-Sacken: the Finding in the Book

The author of the published letter, Mikhail Putsillo (1845–1889) was a researcher and an owner of entomological and mineralogical collections. He was famous as the first Russian scholar who specialized in Korean studies and a compiler of the Russian-Korean dictionary. The letter, addressed to the diplomat, scientist and politician, Baron Reinhold Friedrich Freiherr von der Osten-Sacken, contains some interesting information concerning the author’s work on the “Index of Cases and Manuscripts Related to Siberia” (1879). The edition was dedicated to the 300th anniversary of the accession of Siberia to Russia. The author also mentions the documents he found in the archive of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (concerning the Age of Exploration discoveries made by Russian sailors in the second half of the 18th century in North America). The letter is pasted into the book belonged previously to Baron Friedrich Freiherr von der Osten-Sacken and is still stored at the Department of Rare Books of the Altai Regional Universal Scientific Library named after V. Ya. Shishkov.
