The article presents analytical cross-sectional study of the State Public Scientific Technological Library of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (SPSTL SB RAS) activities on social media and online media from July 28 to August 10, 2023. The analysis of mentions of the library on social media was carried out, the total number of which for the analyzed period amounted to 195 and received an average of 4.5 audience actions per message. The authors of the messages, mainly library specialists, were characterized, the main themes reflected in the published content were defined, trends were identified, audience engagement was analyzed and user reactions to the published content were assessed, as well as the advantages and disadvantages of current communication practices were determined. The author concludes that it is advisable to use analytical tools to build a successful communication strategy and increase the effectiveness of an organization’s activities on social media. A brief literature review on a particular topic was presented. It showed the wide research possibilities of data generated by social media and, at the same time, the insufficient development of the scientific research base of social media in the library and information sphere.

THEORY

Abstract

This article explores growing interest in the concept of presence in the humanities today. Technological innovations are argued to have facilitated advancement of a “digital” imagination, fostering a compelling sensory immersion into virtual words and creating the illusion of unmediated contact. This propelled dialogue about materiality and polymodality as implicit characteristics of literary texts, “enactivism” as evoking the “materialities of communication” (H.U. Gumbrecht) growing increasingly influential in literary cognitive studies. In this context the concept of epiphany thus acquired currency  in modern theory and artistic practice (from Romanticism to Postmodernism), epiphanic writing prioritizing the co-production of aesthetic experience and advocating closer attention to inferential dynamics and the mimetic, deictic or gestural potential of literary discourse in general. Finally, M. Merleau-Ponty’s notion of style is examined to demonstrate the central object of enactivist literary studies to be the author’s style, studied as an interactive experience, and not as an objectified form.

Abstract

This article provides significant addition related to the history of book publishing in the Saratov province in 1918–1928. According to the study, the number of books and brochures published in Saratov province from 1918 to 1928 was at least 2294. Among them, there were popular science books. However, their role and significance in the regional book publishing of the first Soviet decade have not received adequate coverage to date. Therefore, it seems important not only to establish quantitative indicators of output, but also to identify the factors that determined the appearance of this type of books, their subject matter, dynamics, features, analyze the book repertoire, the composition of authors and publishers. The study identified 173 titles of popular science literature published in the region in 1918–1928 by three dozen publishing houses and publishing organizations. Among the above-mentioned publishing organizations were scientific institutes and organizations, as well as cooperative, state and even private enterprises. The authors included many well-known scientists and practitioners in the province, university professors. Reacting to the problems of the region, they tried to provide information on modernization of agriculture in the arid Volga region; countering epidemics and diseases that threatened the province in the 1920s; strengthening women’s health; civil defense, on the development of a new metric system of measures, etc. A number of authors and publishing organizations stimulated the interest of the local community in technical creativity and promoted general science, local history and other education-related spheres. The highest rise in the output of popular science literature, recorded in 1924–1926, was largely associated with the activities of the Moscow publishing house Novaya Derevnya. It was placed in the province for printing books and brochures created by both Saratov and metropolitan authors under the conditions of the NEP (New Economic Policy).

Abstract

The author of the published letter, Mikhail Putsillo (1845–1889) was a researcher and an owner of entomological and mineralogical collections. He was famous as the first Russian scholar who specialized in Korean studies and a compiler of the Russian-Korean dictionary. The letter, addressed to the diplomat, scientist and politician, Baron Reinhold Friedrich Freiherr von der Osten-Sacken, contains some interesting information concerning the author’s work on the “Index of Cases and Manuscripts Related to Siberia” (1879). The edition was dedicated to the 300th anniversary of the accession of Siberia to Russia. The author also mentions the documents he found in the archive of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (concerning the Age of Exploration discoveries made by Russian sailors in the second half of the 18th century in North America). The letter is pasted into the book belonged previously to Baron Friedrich Freiherr von der Osten-Sacken and is still stored at the Department of Rare Books of the Altai Regional Universal Scientific Library named after V.
